The Republic of Cyprus is a country in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Being in the Mediterranean region, Cyprus has warm weather throughout the year.
You would be surprised to know that even being a warmer country, Cyprus has snow sometimes in some places.
Wait; what?
Does it snow in Cyprus?
Yes, it does. But usually, snow is only possible in the Troodos Mountainous region in the central part of the country. Troodos is the largest mountain range in Cyprus. During winter, the temperature stays low for almost 4 months.
When does it snow in the Troodos Mountains?
So on the mountainous regions of the island, snow endures from December to April every year.
Let’s learn some more things about Troodos, shall we?
Troodos gained its name from the three roadways(Nicosia, Limassol, and Prodromos) that run into it, ‘tria odos’ meaning three roads, which became Troodos.
It is the most significant mountain range of Cyprus, covering most of the western and some of the southern parts of the island and accounting for almost half of its area.
Troodos Mountains are a good place for skiing in winter.
The highest peak in the Troodos Mountain Range is Mount Olympus, which stands almost 6500ft above sea level. The peak is home to 4 ski slopes and one ski trail during the winter months.
From the moment you start heading up to the island’s highest peaks, there is so much to do out there, from hiking to skiing, enjoying the greenery and dense pine trees, to the magic of panoramic views that take your breath away.
As the days are shorter in winter, visitors are always advised to go early in the morning to make the day worthwhile.
