How To Find A Room Or A Flat In Cyprus?

Published Categorized as CYPRUS

Finding proper accommodation in Cyprus is not an easy job. Sometimes it takes weeks or even months to find a room or flat in here.

Mainly, international students are facing issues with finding a room. I have seen students sleeping in a Park or Church Benches because they couldn’t find a place to stay in.

Worst of all, some of them were told that they would be provided with a hostel by their colleges, but in reality, most of the colleges here don’t have a hostel facility.
As a result, they become homeless on their first day in Cyprus.

In my case, I already had reserved a room before coming to Cyprus, so I didn’t have to face any room issues. But, because of some circumstances, I had to leave that room too.

I can’t explain the trouble I had to go through to search for a room. After a search of tiresome 25 days, finally, I had found a room. I could have found the room in a day or two, but because of a lack of experience and knowledge, it took me 25 days.

I am writing this article to help people (mainly students) to find a room in Cyprus without getting into any trouble.

Here I have explained 6 ways in detail on how to find a room or flat in Cyprus.

Ask a friend

The best way to find a room is to ask friends for help. Contact almost all of your friends who are in Cyprus and tell them to search for a room.

Many people are getting rooms in this way. I had also asked a friend of mine to book a room for me before arriving in Cyprus.

Most of your friends will say that they will assist you in searching for a room, but only a few of them will actually help you.
Here are some tips for you.

  • Don’t keep high expectations from anyone.
  • Don’t give money before you see the room by yourself.
  • Stay away from fake friends.

Search on Bazaraki

Are you familiar with Bazaraki.com? If you are, then you already know what I am talking about; if not, then let me tell you, Bazaraki is the number one market place in Cyprus.

“You need something? Go and check it on Bazaraki.”

The above saying is very famous in Cyprus. You can search for a lot of things on Bazaraki, for example, Jobs, Vehicles, Electronics, Clothes, and Real Estate too.

Here is a step by step guide for you on how to use Bazaraki.com to search for a room or flat.

  1. First of all, go to Bazaraki.com and look for Real Estate.

Go To Bazaraki And The Click On Real Estate

  1. Click on Real Estate and choose your preferable category.
If you wish to rent a house or an apartment, then click on Houses, Apartments to rent. If you want to rent just a room or share a flat with other people, then click on Rooms, Flatmates, as shown in the image below.

Choose Your Preferable Category

  1. Click on All Cities and choose your preferable city.
Suppose you are looking for a room in Nicosia Town Center, then all you have to do is:
    i. Click on the Lefkosia (Nicosia) district.
ii. Click on Nicosia – Town Center
    iii. Click Submit.

Choose Your Preferable City

  1. Now, you will see a lot of suggestions there. If you feel like checking that room or flat, then click on it.
  1. When you click on that suggestion, a new page will open with the room’s or flat’s description.
You will get to see the following things on that page:
    i. Reference Number
    ii. Availability Date
    iii. Room/Flat Type
    iv. Number of Rooms
    v. Number of Washrooms
    vi. Location

On the right side, you can see the price of the room, name, and contact details of the landlord or agent.

The contact number might be hidden at first. You have to click on “Show Phone,” as demonstrated in the image below.

Click On Show Phone Number

When you see the phone number, dial it. If the room is available, you can go and check it out.

Pro Tip:
I found my recent room from Bazaraki.com too.
It’s a very reliable online platform. If you don’t like the room, then you can check again on Bazaraki for other options.

Most of the prices on Bazaraki are negotiable. So try to negotiate for your benefits.

Check on Facebook

Do you know you can search for a room or flat in Cyprus from Facebook.com too? If you don’t know, then here is how you do it.

  1. Facebook Market Place

The marketplace is a new feature brought by Facebook for people’s convenience to buy and sell goods online.

You can search for rooms or flats in your preferable location by visiting facebook.com/marketplace

  1. Facebook Groups

There are 100’s of Facebook groups created to buy, sell, and rent rooms or flats in Cyprus.
You can go to those groups and ask the group members for help.

Here are some trustable Facebook groups you can check.

3. Facebook Pages

Go to Facebook search and type for “Rooms Rent Cyprus.”

You will see a lot of Facebook pages created to give information and availability of rooms or flats in Cyprus.

You can check one by one and see if they have any information relatable to you.
Contact the page admins and request them to notify whenever they have a room available.

You can like and follow the particular page so that when they have a new update, you will get notified.

Contact Real Estate Agents

Real Estate Companies are a little bit expensive because they work on a commission basis.
If you are a new student and can’t afford high priced rooms, then I suggest you not to make a deal with them.

But, if you think you can put some extra money for a comfortable room, then real estate agents can help you.

Here are some of the best real estate agents in Cyprus for you to check out.

  1. Airbnb
  2. Foxrealty
  3. Livingincy
  4. Nicosia4rent

Ask College Administration to help

As I said before, most of the colleges in Cyprus don’t have a hostel service.

Some of the colleges are so worse that they take money from students as hostel fees and in return, they don’t give any facilities.

Fortunately, some colleges really take care of their students. If you are from one of those colleges, then you should consider yourself lucky.

If you go and tell them about your situation, they would help you or at least give you some suggestions.

Walk and Search

Walk And Search Method

I have put this process in the last step because I really don’t find this way beneficial. Walk and Search is a process where you go door to door and ask people if they have any room or flat available.

This process is very tiresome and time-consuming. If any other way didn’t work for you, you can go and try your luck. But, until you have other options, don’t consider walk and search as a good idea.

Most of the house owners won’t even answer the doorbell. Without a doubt, it’s a terrible idea. But what will you do if no other options are left?

Finding a room or a flat in Cyprus using the walk and search method has some advantages too.

  • You can directly deal with the landlord.
  • You won’t need to deal with agents and pay extra.
  • You can bargain directly with the house owner.
  • No hidden charges, as you would be the one to talk about the room.

    1. You can confirm it from Cyprus Consulate. If you feel like it’s not an original visa, you can call Cyprus consulate or go visit them. They will check it and let you know.
